It is an accomplishment making it to adulthood, not to mention surviving these last few challenging years. But many go through life feeling like a fraud, faking it, hoping no one notices their so-called charade. The title for this feeling is imposter syndrome.
From what I have witnessed, this problem is universal. It has you more concerned with others' opinions rather than walking your talk, afraid they will see and judge your vunerabilities. It seeps into all areas of life and can stop you from reaching your potential or even envisioning goals. Success of any kind feels undeserved since it was received by a phony.
You may not consciously recognize feeling this way, but in the back of your mind you worry that others will discover and bust you as a fake.
People who are sensitive and care deeply about the world are particularly susceptible to the imposter syndrome. Arriving with a strong need to fulfill a higher purpose creates doubt about being able to accomplish such a big mission.
The standard advice: Be more aware, think positively, make a list of your accomplishments or just get over it.
These band aids may help temporarily, but to permanently resolve your internal doubts takes digging, discovering where the negativity took hold. Once the roots of the issue are pulled up, the inner programing blinding your ability to believe how capable you truly are, can shift. Then you can deserve the flow of competence, freed from the shackles of self-doubt.
The roots of imposter syndrome can be sourced to incidents where you decided you do not deserve. From then on you believe you are not enough, so whatever success you manage to acquire feels unwarrented.
One of my students struggled with imposter syndrome for a lifetime. It showed up blatantly when trying to get his entrepreneurial venture to succeed. This business was not formed to simply make a profit, but rather had an important planetary mission. He noticed that whenever sales went past a certain monetary level, he started feeling extremely anxious. He found himself thinking, why me? Shortly after, he would self-sabotage in various subconscious ways.
Although he had no formal education in this field, he had years of firsthand experience and thousands of happy clients. Yet, he still felt like a fraud.
Together we explored his past using my spiritual clearing technique. He discovered forgotten early childhood incidents that convinced him that he did not deserve success. Resolving these subconscious memories, he realized he was not faking it in his business. By shifting his own energy, his attitude toward success shifted and he no longer sabotaged his business.
