THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN

Back in my twenties, I would proudly boast my best quality was being a “realist.” I'd intellectually pontificate arguments about things I didn’t even really care about, using big words like pontificate.

Yet, there was this equally strong, diametrically opposed part of me, desperately wanting to understand the Whys of Life. Since my "realist" part needed proof, we both began exploring various spiritual paths together.

The more I explored, the more I noticed the one key, crucial “Law” seekers are required to abide by: Positive thoughts bring positive results; negative thoughts bring negative outcomes.

So, applying my "realist" attitude, I devoured volumes of books espousing its validity. With that as proof, I began stringently obeying this Law.

However, no matter how much I tried to change my thinking, positive results rarely occurred for me. What am I doing wrong, I’d lament. It works for others, why not me?

When I began teaching spirituality, I respectfully adhered to that concept, training others to obey the Law as well. Diligently, they learned to catch anything negative creeping into their thoughts, yet most, if not all, had the same frustrating results: Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

One night during class, a student had the chutzpa to question that cherished Law since it, too, wasn’t working for him.

My answer not only shocked the class, but equally shocked me: "That Law won’t work until you discover and release the subconscious, programmed, negative thoughts that are actually running the show, like a little man hiding behind a curtain," I explained.

That answer, which I hadn't known prior to my mouth opening to let it emerge, came from a source much wiser than little ole’ me. Even my "realist" trusted it.

That same student’s next question was, of course, "Um, so how do you do that?"

Again, my mouth opened and I effortlessly explaining step-by-step exactly how to do that. No prob.

To prove it, I did a spontaneous demonstration on a student. The class (and I) looked on in amazement.

Even though I'd been teaching for almost a year, that precise moment gave birth to my Real Teachings. The next day, I tossed a bunch of those positive thinking books and never looked back.

Breaking the Surface

Clearly, attempting to change conscious thoughts barely breaks the surface of what’s affecting your life. In other words, you can’t change your thinking if you aren’t aware of what you’re thinking.

That little man behind the curtain running your show needs to be recognized. Ignoring and blocking him really irritates him, causing him to get louder, more insistent, more destructive.

Hiding

Through decades of teaching thousands, people always arrive in my classes claiming they want spiritual growth. But what they actually want is another place to hide from pain, a quick fix to feel happy all the time. Or, as Huey Lewis famously said, “I want a new drug.”

There's a romanticized notion of sitting in full lotus position, meditating blissfully and having way-cool out of body experiences while in deep discussion with spirit guides. All of which is nice, but it's the spiritual inner work that will allow your life to transform.

Spiritual work is about unabashedly facing what’s lurking behind your subconscious curtain, from this as well as past lives. That's what allows the Real You, the wise, intuitive, aware, loving you, to emerge. Permanently.

Getting to the subconscious roots of untrue negative notions is completely different than painting them over with positive rainbows or learning ways to look at the bright side while your heart is breaking.

It’s digging deep rather than memorizing convenient catchphrases to feel good for the moment, or spewing spiritual clichés to avoid facing issues.

It’s retrieving and dissolving what’s subconsciously in the way of true self-empowerment, so you live a purposeful life, coming from Love as you do what you are meant to do here.

And that’s what real positivity is about.

Granted, there are often some amazing woo-woo experiences along the way, but usually to just wake you up or provide experiential proof countering doubts for your "realist."

No longer needing that man behind your curtain to run your life can effortlessly shift thoughts over to the positive side. Which can effortlessly create different results. That Law is true, with just a bit of a twist.

So, no matter what that Wizard guy insists, it IS time to pay attention to that man behind the curtain.
