THE PAUSE THAT REFRESHES?

People often tell me I have the patience of a saint. I wouldn’t put myself in a saintly category, but life has taught me to trust the process, because, eventually things do make sense.

At least in a Higher Consciousness, everything happens for a reason kinda way.

Right now, with dueling environmental catastrophes going on, the continuing uncertainty of a pandemic, the exasperating pursuit of social justice, the tirade of politics and the ominous specter of climate change, you’re probably sick of hearing yourself say 'what the hell' from frustration and fear.

Right?

With all these things up in the air, and no solutions or ends in sight, this is the true definition of limbo.

But, is it really?

Or is this rock-and-a-hard-place time simply an important pause that needs to happen, perhaps for all of us to acquire the patience of a saint?

What is Limbo, Anyway?

Webster says that limbo is an indeterminate state or midpoint; a state of uncertainty; being kept waiting.

As a spiritual teacher, I've witnessed that frequently, after students do a lot of transformational inner work, they often reach a plateau. This limbo time is important; it's a pause to gather energy for the next part of their journey. A time to integrate who they've become as they sit in inertia.

Envision it as an “ebb.” Like what waves do after they crest. What the moon does after it’s full.

It can be one of the most growth filled times if you allow it to be.

How Low Can You Go?

To your primitive, fear-based, programmed consciousness, limbo is brutally uncomfortable. Sitting in uncertainty feels futile, frustrating, hopeless, as if nothing is happening.

Sadly, many give up when they reach their personal limbo time. They buy into fear and doubt, see this time as evidence of failure, or believe they’re going backwards.

But, imagine Tarzan swinging on vines as he traverses through the jungle: He must swing backwards to gain the momentum to reach his next vine.

Instead What?

Impatiently trying to force change by pushing that fast forward button, never seems to work.

Instead, honor this period with some self-reflection (I can help with that). Notice your false beliefs, those stories you frequently tell yourself and those “what ifs” getting in the way of your next step. Even if you don’t know what that next step might be.

Use your limbo time to clean up your past so you feel more deserving to take that next step. Or let go of something you’re holding onto to make space for something new.

Or, just give yourself time to nourish and re-energize for what will undoubtedly happen soon enough.

Importantly, say YES to where your Higher Consciousness is leading you. Welcome the next part of your journey with open arms, even if you don’t know what it will look like.

Remember: The more you fight limbo, the longer it lasts, so enjoy your ebb!

And, what you learn and who you become during limbo is even more important than what you’re waiting for.

As we all sit in global limbo, remind yourself that there must be some awfully Big Learning going on.

Trust that the ebb will flow, Tarzan will reach his next vine, limbo is your empowering B.F.F. and things will make sense.

With the patience of a saint or not.
