ZOOMING REGRETS

Last week, a group of my few first cousins zoomed together. Living scattered from Texas to California, we don’t regularly see one another, especially during this year of pan-distancing.

Some sentimental feelings inspired this virtual reunion, and maybe a bit of oh-my-god-where-did-the-years-go-and-how-did-we-become-the-older-generation anxiety.

After a brief catch-up, each spontaneously shared several vivid childhood memories about some family members no longer with us. It was fascinating to hear what had been deposited in those odd memory banks as we added different pieces to our family puzzle. Two hours later, zoomed out, we promised to get together “soon” with more family stories that only the six of us care about.

What a healing, heart-warming experience to share meaningful moments with people I’ve known since birth.

Listening to each cousin, I fantasized how a future discussion without my presence would be. Would they be disclosing memories of fun times we’d shared? Sadness about not spending enough time together? Would they know the authentic me and our heart-felt profound connection? Most importantly, would they experience how much I loved and honored each of them?

In other words, would there be any regrets on their side or mine?

No Regrets

As a spiritual teacher, my ongoing personal commitment is to live life with no regrets, big or small.

Like, before hanging up phone calls, I make certain I’ve said everything I need to say, expressed my true feelings, left nothing dangling.

I also imagine if I were to die today, ponder whether I resolved things I was here to clean up. Did I accomplish my Purposeful mission this life?

The Duality of Life

As years go by, with the reality of death getting closer, you may notice regrets running your life. They can be subtle, a sense that something's “off,” or a full-on deep sadness.

However, there’s this huge Life Dichotomy that comes along with regrets: 1) Knowing that nothing is permanent so to not take things too seriously; and simultaneously 2) Knowing that your Life Purpose is tp reach Higher Consciousness capital L Love, unconditional acceptance for all and for yourself as well.

By holding each side of that apparent contradiction as Truth, it IS possible to accomplish both. If you don’t, that’s when those insufferable regrets show up.

Here’s how it works:

Subconsciously, you know what you’re here to accomplish, your Sacred, meant-to-do Life Purpose; the unique form your love is supposed to be expressed in.

At the same time, it's imperative to have an attitude of playfulness as you accomplish it.

In other words, knowing that it matters, but it really doesn’t matter, simultaneously.

So, scan your life NOW to make sure you’re doing both.

Know that it’s always your choice, so choose consciously, wisely, bravely, honestly and joyfully. Make some big changes, shift priorities and be brutally honest with yourself.

And have fun with it all.

No regrets.

And keep on zooming – you never know what wisdom may arrive!
